The eight titles for the Jerwood Fiction Uncovered Prize 2015 were selected by a judging panel chaired by India Knight. The 2015 judging panel included Matt Bates, fiction buyer at WH Smith Travel, Cathy Galvin, journalist, poet and Director of The Word Factory and Simon Savidge, blogger and journalist.
About the Judges:
India Knight is Chair of Judges 2015. She is the author of five non-fiction books: In Your Prime, the bestselling diet book Neris and India’s Idiot-Proof Diet, the accompanying bestselling cookbook Neris and India’s Idiot-Proof Diet Cookbook, The Thrift Book and The Shops. She has also written four novels: Mutton, My Life on a Plate, Don’t You Want Me and Comfort and Joy. India is a columnist for the Sunday Times and lives in London with her partner and three children.

Matt Bates has worked in the book industry for over 25 years and is currently Fiction Buyer for WHSmith Travel. He has been rated as one of the Top 1000 most influential Londoners in the Evening Standard, and is an Associate Vice President of the Romantic Novelists Society, a organisation for which he has judged three times. In 2013 he judged the Historical Novelists Society International Award, and has contributed to book related articles in The Daily Telegraph, The Daily Express, The Bookseller and Writers Forum magazine.
Journalist and poet Cathy Galvin is Director of the Word Factory, the UK’s leading promoter of short fiction and associate editor of Newsweek. She has held senior positions at the Sunday Times, editing News Review, as deputy of the Sunday Times Magazine and founder of the Sunday Times EFG short story award. She has written for national newspapers including the Financial Times and is a director of The Tablet. She edited Red, Waterstones anthology of new writing. Her sequence of sonnets, Black and Blue, is published by Melos Press. Cathy has judged the Frank O’ Connor International short story award and sits on the judging panel for the Charleston-Chichester Award For A Lifetime’s Excellence In Short Fiction.

Simon Savidge is a blogger, freelance journalist and book addict. He writes the book blog Savidge Reads which has been shortlisted for the UK Blog Awards 2015. He regularly contributes to several literature and lifestyle magazines. He is co-founder and Honorary Director of The Green Carnation Prize, hosts the podcast You Wrote the Book and co-hosts The Readers and Hear Read This podcasts. In 2013 he became one of the judges on the inaugural panel for The Guardian’s Not the Booker Prize and was the inaugural Guest Editor for Fiction Uncovered’s website in 2014.
