Fiction Uncovered by… Evie Wyld, novelist

I first read Afsaneh Knight’s Slaughterhouse Heart about a year ago and I still find myself waking up to it in the night. It seems to me a book about understanding cruelty, where it comes from and who absorbs it. The writing is superb and deserves to be held up. I got lost finishing it on the bus, missed my stop by about fifteen minutes and ended up in Lewisham.

Evie Wyld is the author of After the Fire, a Still Small Voice (Jonathan Cape).

i totally agree – this novel is truly hypnotic and very powerful. i wish more people would pick it up. It has become a small gem with enormous resonance.
